COSH compliant Spill Kits, what they contain and what they are used for

There are four main types of COSH compliant Spill Kits available, these are, Oil and Fuel, Marine, Universal and Chemical Spill Kits.  Each different kit contains everything needed to deal with a specific spillage and will effectively contain, clean up, and dispose of any chemical leak or spill.  Specialist, professional companies can provide Chemical Spill Kits from Hyde Park Environmental that will contain, spill neutralisers, absorbent pads, disposable gloves and other personal, protective equipment, brooms, brushes, dustpans, waste bags, ties and a safe container to dispose of any chemical spills.

To use these elite kits safely you will need intense and thorough training, this way you will be able to conduct a proper risk assessment before deciding what type of chemical may have been spilt, how quickly the spillage could spread, what volume of chemical could potentially be spilt all together, what areas could be affected, and what containment is needed.  There is a basic but necessary four step procedure to this type of risk assessment, Identify, Assess, Control and Sustain.

If the spill can be contained by the kit onsite it is deemed to be a minor spill, if however, the spill is out of control then it is considered a major incident and should be dealt with by the emergency services as soon as possible. Keep your spill kit in an easy to access area that is within 30m of a potential accidental spillage site.
