Don’t experience the Empty Nest Syndrome when your teenagers go off to College or University

Many parents have experienced the “Empty nest Syndrome” when their teenaged children leave home and go off to College or University, often in another part of the Country. This term is used to describe the feelings of loss and loneliness many parents experience once their children have moved away from the family home.  Are you about to go through this possibly traumatic time, are your grown-up children about to set off on their college or University adventures?  Have they chosen Dudley, Wolverhampton, Birmingham or Coventry in the West Midlands to complete their studies?  The best way to cope with them moving out is to get on board with the move and help them find suitable accommodation as well as making sure all their precious belongings are safe and secure in a Self Storage Dudley facility, from a professional company such as Anchor Self Storage.

Go with your children, if they want you to, help unpack and settle into their new rooms, make sure they have a mobile phone with access to plenty of data and credit, so that they can contact you whenever they want.  Take food parcels and help out financially if you can, encourage them to be independent but make sure they know you are only a phone call away should they need you. Keep yourselves busy once back at home, visit friends and family members you haven’t had a chance to see in a while.  Maybe go travelling, now you have more time for yourselves you can go to countries and cities you have always wanted to visit.

Being a parent is a full-time job, so once your children have “Flown the Nest” make the most of having the opportunity and the time to enjoy your life and do whatever you want to do.  You’ve spent most of your married life, bringing your children up to be independent, caring, intelligent young adults, now you can enjoy some couple time and reignite the romantic spark you had before the children came along!  Your children will be making new friends, learning new skills and enjoying their university years. You’ve prepared them for this and now it’s your turn to make new friends, learn new skills and have the time of your lives.
