Give your home an external makeover

Most people think about the interior when it comes to decorating their home – new paint for the living room, new cabinets in the kitchen or a brand new bathroom. However, don’t overlook the exterior of your home. After all, it is the first thing that both you and your guests will see when they arrive at your home. Yet many people do not give it much thought. Here are some ideas to spruce up your home’s exterior…

The Front Door- Your front door can reveal a lot about your personality. Does yours need a little TLC? You can replace your entire front door or give it a facelift. A new coat of paint and a brand new letterbox are inexpensive ways to give your front door a fresh look. A plaque with your name or house number on it and a brass door knocker can add a sophisticated finishing touch. Front Garden – You can make your front garden look great no matter how big it is. Make sure to keep your lawn mowed, and weed-free. If you have enough space, planting flowers along the edge of your lawn is a good idea. Planting window boxes and pots of vibrantly coloured flowers in the absence of grass will make your home appear more inviting than nothing at all. Make sure your driveway and pathways are in good repair, and free of weeds.

Back of the House – If you have a back garden, take advantage of it. Patio doors going out to the back are a lovely thing to have – if you don’t already have them, or think you may be in need of new ones, are worth checking out. A garden is a great place to relax, especially in the spring and summer. If you have kids, you can build a separate playground out back.

Garage Door – If your garage door is looking a little tired, it could be time for a new one. Why not consider a different material like wood or aluminium? You might decide on carriage style windows or a brand new automated style door. This can completely refresh the exterior of your home. Consider a colour that blends in with your home’s existing style and brick colour.
